Health Evaluation Research Services
The Texas A&M AgriLife Institute for Advancing Health Through Agriculture is proud to offer Health Evaluation Research Services, HERS, to Texas A&M University researchers as well as researchers at other organizations who conduct human studies. With a combination of brick-and-mortar research clinics as well as mobile units that can travel across the state, our mission is to provide an innovative solution for researchers to expand their work through the ability to conduct data collection in a variety of settings by qualified medical personnel.
We can also provide services for community outreach, extension, and educational events throughout the state of Texas using our mobile units – known formally as Mobile Health Assessment Centers, MHACs.
All research conducted by the IHA’s HERS unit must be approved by Texas A&M’s Institutional Review Board, IRB, before execution of services. Any faculty member acting as the Principal Investigator or the supervising faculty member of any project being conducted by IHA’s clinical research services is responsible for the scientific conduct of the project.

This future location will include additional capabilities including an exercise lab, metabolic kitchen and dining room, ultrasound, observation rooms, etc.
Mobile Units
Mobile Health Assessment Centers, MHACs
These fully-equipped, state-of-the-art mobile clinics represent an innovative solution to expand research capabilities to populations in all parts of the state.
- Two large, 40-foot units
- Two small, 25-foot units
We can also provide rental services for statewide community outreach, extension and educational events using the MHACs.
Clinical Capabilities
We have capabilities to perform the following procedures with qualified medical personnel:
- Blood collection (phlebotomy)
- Urine/stool collection
- Saliva collection
- Breastmilk collection
- Vital signs
- Height, weight and anthropometrics
- Body composition analysis
- Point of care (finger stick) analysis for:
- Glucose
- Hemoglobin
- Hemoglobin A1C
- Cholesterol
- Dermal carotenoids (Veggie meter)
- Liver scanning for fibrosis and steatosis (FibroScan)
- Online surveys / questionnaires / forms
