Hyewon Han, Ph.D., is a postdoctoral researcher at the Texas A&M AgriLife Institute for Advancing Health Through Agriculture, IHA. She earned her Ph.D. in Nutrition from Texas A&M University under the mentorship of Yuxiang Sun, Ph.D., M.D., and received her Master’s degree in Food and Nutrition from Yonsei University.
Han’s research focuses on immunometabolism in chronic inflammatory conditions such as diet-induced obesity and aging, with an emphasis on how dietary interventions, including intermittent fasting, regulate immune responses and systemic inflammation. During her doctoral training, she investigated ghrelin receptor, GHSR, signaling in myeloid cells and its role in aging, obesity and acute inflammatory responses using laboratory models, flow cytometry and multi-omics approaches.
While her primary focus was liver immunometabolism, she has also conducted studies in brown adipose tissue and pancreatic islet macrophages, as well as systemic immune compartments including PBMCs, peritoneal macrophages and bone marrow hematopoietic stem and progenitor cells.
Her long-term research goal is to translate mechanistic discoveries into human-relevant biomarkers and precision nutrition strategies, bridging preclinical findings to clinical and population-level applications to improve disease prevention and overall health.
